Safe & Sound Week
It's OK to be a Prepper
Just a quick note this morning.
Last week was National Safe & Sound Week. This is put on by OSHA as a “nationwide event held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace safety and health programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America’s workers safe.”
This year, the emphasis was on emergency preparedness.
As someone who lives in California, this is a topic that is always on my family’s mind.
While we wait for the Big One, our family has filled backpacks with supplies that will - hopefully - last us in case we go off the grid during an earthquake.
But it’s not just an earthquake that we need to prepare for.
This year’s devastating fires in the Palisades and Altadena are also a reminder that an emergency can pop-up at moment’s notice.
From tornados to hurricanes to floods to winter-related power outages, it’s in everyone’s best interest to be prepared for worst case scenarios.
There are plenty of online retailers who sell pre-packaged kits, and they’re worth checking out as a “don’t think about it” way to get prepared.
Ready.gov has a list of items you may need in case of an emergency, if you’d like to “DIY-It” and build your own…which is what our family did.

Not a great emergency kit
Either method is a good way to up your preparedness game. The key is to be prepared.
Have a kit (or two or three) stashed away in the an accessible area.
You don’t want to be the house that isn’t ready.
You want to be Safe & Sound.
